Teach For America Greater New Orleans Roundtable – COVID-19 and New Orleans Education

On April 9th, 2020, Teach For America Greater New Orleans hosted a roundtable discussion with education leaders from across the city about the current and constantly evolving state of education in New Orleans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our panel of experts explored the need for leadership at all levels, the issues of equity affecting our community, and clarified the connection between what solutions are being elevated on the state, city, and school levels. Our panel was moderated by Kira Orange Jones (District 2 Representative for BESE) and consisted of Ethan Ashley (President, Orleans Parish School Board), Patrick Dobard (CEO of New Schools for New Orleans), Kate Mehok (CEO of Crescent City Schools), and Joy Okoro (Executive Director, Teach For America Greater New Orleans). Our panelists had an open and honest discussion about what children, families, schools, and educators are facing right now and what the future may hold for our education system.
