The Mountain Teacher Fellowship (MTF) is a community-focused initiative of Teach For America Appalachia to support TFA alumni teaching in Central Appalachia after their initial two-year commitment. Fellows pledge to teach in Appalachian Region Commission-designated counties in EKY, SWVA, WV, and ETN) while implementing evidence-based and workshopped practices into their classrooms and communities. MTF is a compounding fellowship; teachers advance their school and systems leadership acumen throughout the three years of the program by selecting one of three leadership tracks: Facilitation and Curriculum Design, School Leadership, or Community Leadership and Organizing. By the end of the program, they will have designed and begun to implement a project relevant to their long-term leadership interests.
