Čaŋkú Lúta win | Shawnta’ (sean tay) Jones is Oglala Lakota from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and received a Master’s of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Shawnta’ is the Lakota School Design and Education Manager at Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation based in the heart of the Pine Ridge Reservation, Oceti Sakowin Land. She is developing an authentic Lakota immersion school that is embedded in their Lakota spirituality, language and lifeways. In the effort to create educational systems that are free of white supremacy, the church, whiteness, and settler colonialism, Shawnta’ and her colleagues are shifting the narrative in Indigenous Education to recognize that Indigenous languages and lifeways are, and have always been, our educational system. Shawnta’ is dedicated to empowering Lakota youth through the healing and strengthening of cultural identity
