PowerHours - Principal Role Clarity: Unlocking the Power of Instructional Leadership

Session Title: Principal Role Clarity: Unlocking the Power of Instructional Leadership
Facilitator: Emily Freitag, Co-Founder and CEO, Instruction Partners
Description: Last year, Instruction Partners launched the Principal Role Clarity project to document the challenges associated with unclear role expectations for school leaders—and uncover promising solutions. In October, we published a white paper that explores the challenges of defining instructional leadership, particularly when it comes to principals’ role in supporting teaching and learning. A key takeaway from this work is that there is an urgent need for a clear and shared understanding of instructional leadership roles and activities across the education sector.
In this session, we will explore the major findings, discuss promising solutions, and reflect on the implications for school and district leaders. We will focus on key instructional leadership practices and share some school staffing models that provide role clarity and ensure coverage for instructional leadership tasks. We will hold time to hear about, and answer questions on, your instructional leadership challenges.
Target Audience: School and System Leaders, and Instructional Leaders
