A former journalist turned educator, Dashiell Young Saver (San Antonio ’17) embarked on a transformative journey in San Antonio’s classrooms. Faced with the stark reality of educational inequality, Dashiell tossed aside outdated textbooks and asked his students what they truly wanted to learn. From social media earnings to food deserts, the topics they chose were real, relevant, and resonant. As Dashiell introduced these new materials, he noticed student engagement skyrocketed, and so did their academic performance. During the pandemic, Dashiell decided to take his innovative curriculum online, leading to an unexpected explosion of interest from teachers nationwide. Now, with over 20,000 educators on board and impacting hundreds of thousands of students, Dashiell’s journey is a testament to the power of listening and adapting to the needs of the young minds we aim to shape.
